Author's Party

This morning I attended Ms. Berry's Kindergarten Author's Party. Each child read a book they had written and illustrated. Nathan's book was about chickens the class hatched using an incubator (or exterminator, as Nathan says). Out of about a dozen eggs, four were able to crack open. The class got to keep the chicks for a few days. Then the chicks went to a farm. This made the children sad (for about a day).

Here is a clip of Nathan reading his own work, entitled "The Chicks."

On the front page of local news...

Nathan is thrilled to have his picture in the paper! He has wanted to claim this celebrity status for some time now. Here he is with his friend Ishmael, eating lunch in the school cafeteria. Nathan has eaten "hot" lunch all year - I haven't packed for him once. It's not that he loves the food... he's holding out in hopes of winning the "secret tray" day that occurs once a month. The prize is a small plastic football. Since there are only 7 more days of school, I don't expect this to happen. Lucky for us, being on the front page of the paper is a pretty good substitute!
